Apple officially introduced its newest generation of flagships – iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. This year's models do not bring a radical change in overall appearance, but offer significant internal improvements focused on processing power, camera capabilities, and more efficient connectivity.
Here is what you need to know about Apple's newest smartphones:
📸 Camera revolution with variable aperture
One of the most impressive innovations in the iPhone 18 Pro series is the 48-megapixel main camera, which features a variable aperture for the first time. This technology provides users with unprecedented control over the amount of light reaching the sensor, as well as depth of field (the bokeh effect).
- New sensor and processing: Photos are sharper and more detailed, and the enhanced Photographic Styles offer new settings for texture and grain.
- Camera Control: The hardware camera control button is retained, allowing quick access to zoom, exposure, and capturing photos or video.
⚡ A20 Pro processor and custom Apple chips
The heart of the new models is the A20 Pro chip, which ensures high performance and seamless operation during heavy tasks. Apple also takes a big step toward independence from external suppliers by integrating its own connectivity chips:
- N1 chip: Provides support for the latest standards – Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread.
- C2 modem: The new mobile communication solution, using artificial intelligence for a better connection. It offers significantly faster upload speeds and consumes 15% less energy compared to its predecessor (C1X).
📱 Display and refined design
The screens of both models remain at 6.3 inches (Pro) and 6.9 inches (Pro Max), but are brighter and more comfortable to use.
- Smaller Dynamic Island: The interactive cutout now takes up less space and can display up to three Live Activities simultaneously (e.g. navigation, music, and sports scores).
- Brightness up to 3000 nits: Ensures perfect readability even under direct sunlight, assisted by a new anti-reflective coating.
- Durability: An aluminum unibody chassis is used (also improving heat dissipation), and the screen is protected by the next-generation Ceramic Shield 2, which is three times more scratch-resistant compared to the iPhone 16 Pro. The back is also covered with Ceramic Shield.
- Color: The devices are available in Black, Silver, Glacier (a light cool shade), and the brand new Burgundy.
- The increased size and weight of the Pro Max model are compensated for by the significantly larger battery, which according to Apple is the most durable ever put in an iPhone. The availability of configurations with up to 2 TB storage is great news for content creators shooting in ProRAW and ProRes formats.
